Provide Clean Water
The relationship between water and health is significant. The World Health Organization
estimates that 3.3 million people die annually from diarrhea-related diseases obtained by
drinking water from unclean sources. Children, especially those under the age of five, are
most susceptible to the ultimate horrors of these water-born diseases. Access to clean water
substantially decreases the mortality rates among children.
Improve Sanitation and Hygiene
By providing a water source at the school and connecting the teaching staff to the project,
teachers will be encouraged to implement educational programs that will teach hygiene and
safe water usage practices to the students. Schools tend to be located in central parts of
their communities, and it is our goal to provide a source of water for year-round accessibility
to the community. Civic leaders will then be able to take the next steps to build sanitation
systems conducive to public needs.
Improve Economic Levels
When water is available to people at a more central location, women will have time to pursue
jobs, and children will be able to take advantage of educational opportunities by spending
time in school. Better education will lead the way to development of an improved economy.
Develop Responsible World Citizens
Providing elementary and teenage students the opportunities to look beyond their world and
to understand and appreciate the circumstances of others helps develop habits and desires
to aid people in need. Through H2O for Life, U. S. students will communicate with and learn
about the students they are helping. In addition, global connections will be made around the
world, and letters and pictures may be exchanged while students learn about other cultures.
Besides providing water, the U.S. students will experience a service-learning project that may
change the way they connect to the world.

Educate Children
In developing countries, women and children,
especially young girls, walk an average of six
kilometers a day to gather water for their families. In
many cases, roughly 60% of their day is spent walking
to and from water sources. Children are spending
many hours gathering and transporting water and do
not have time to attend school. They, therefore, lack
the education needed to move forward.
